| Subject: | How to make searching metatags faster? |
I need to make searching pdf metatags faster for a company using Paperport 10.5 and 11 on several machines. They have a peer to peer windows xp pro network and are saving all pdf files on one computer with a shared folder. This company is scanning in all their documents and saving them in the pdf format using metatags. IE JOB ID, Full Name, Address, City. They do not need a full document OCR that the all-in-one index gives them. Plus they refuse to run the indexer. They currently have 3,000 + multipage PDF in the shared folder. They want the result to appear as soon as they press enter and not the 5 minutes it sometimes take.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Why do they refuse to use the indexer? Isn't that the solution?

This is a bad idea to begin with. They really should keep the files on
a file-server, not on someone's desktop. What if "Joe" has to restart
his machine?

That part makes sense.

Well, then the software will refuse to perform as they desire! Do they
also think they can drive a car without oil in the engine!

Hmm... Sounds like they are both clueless _and_ unreasonable, a potent
combination.
If they are wedded to Paperport, they have to use the indexer. Another
option that would be VERY fast would be to use Acrobat Catalog for the
search functionality. It's possible to set up the Catalog index to
reindex automagically too. To do this, they would need to get their
metadata into their PDF custom document information fields. Once done,
however, most any search engine (even Google Desktop) would do a fine
job. It would also mean stepping out of paperport.

thank you very much. The company has decided that they would like a more robust system for scanning and document management. What would be a good product that would allow them to make changes to a pdf file as well as scan them in with Metatags. I think they are willing to get a "server" that would automatically up-date. They have Brother MFC 8220 that they are using to scan. What would be a faster step for them to take.
Thanks
