Subject:Acrobat Error or Crash During Duplex Scanning

I am scanning with an Epson V500 scanner with an ADF, which is a simplex scanner. After I flip the pages over and scan the back sides it either displays the message "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit." and quits or it crashes without an error message with the option to send an error report to Apple. I'm running Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, Mac OS 10.4.11 on an Intel MacBook Pro using the Epson Scan.app driver version 3.27A.

Another anomaly with this configuration is that after I open Acrobat and the first scan using the Epson Scan TWAIN driver, double clicking on a PDF file no longer opens the file. The OS will go to Acrobat but the files will no longer open. Closing Acrobat and opening it again will fix the problem.

I posted these problems to several fora at the Adobe site but have had no response. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Joel
