Subject:Problem - There was an error opening this document. Access denied

We've got lots of PDFs that we've been creating they was all fine
at the start for the first 100 or so but then I get "There was an
error opening this document. Access denied.". I tried a PDF
repair but didn't work, theres around 800 like this then the last 50
or so are all ok. Not sure why they went from being fine to
faulty to fine again. Anyone got any suggestions?

Try to copy the document. Can you copy it? If so, can you open the copy?

Ive tried to copy it but when it says "Cannot Copy (Document name) Access is denied. Make sure the disc is not full or write protected and the file is not in use.

Ok, so it isn't an Acrobat problem. Acrobat can't open the file, because the file is locked. Perhaps it's in use by another process, perhaps it's a permission problem.

Did you make the PDFs from this same computer, this same logged on user, and are they stored on a local disk?

Just tried on the computer that created them and they open so must be a permissions thing, any idea how to rectify that or is it a case for the computer repair man

It should be possible to fix this on the computer that created them. If there's a person who administers the computer, get them to sort it (so that they sort it for future files too). Also, there may be a particular reason for that security - maybe you would need to login as a different user to get at the files.

If it is all your job, first consider the security implications. Are you happy that every computer on this network be able to read these files? How about writing them? Just be sure before you take off any security. Then take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307874
