| Subject: | Chinese and Korean Characters not Viewable in Acrobat 9 |
I am creating a version 1.5 PDF with Chinese and korean Characters(through CID Keyed Fonts) using my own PDF generator. This PDF is correctly viewed in Acrobat Professional 6 and 7. But when the same PDF is viewed in Acrobat 8 or 9, the Chinese and Korean characters do not appear. Please note that Language Support Packs are installed for all Acrobat versions. Can anyone please guide me that what is going wrong?
Thanks and Regards,
Bilal

Maybe you can share a sample PDF? Very difficult for us to speculate otherwise.

Acrobat X Preflight reports a width mismatch (1000 in PDF, 1 in embedded font). If converting to PDF/X-4 it says the font is invalid (perhaps for this reason). I don't see this causing the text to disappear, but it is worth investigating.
Also, your font Flags seem wrong, surely - 40021 hex? Can you explain each of the bits you have set?

Thanks for your prompt response.
I have verified that vlaue 1000 (fa 7c) is being written for width in CFF. Is there some problem with that?
I am setting the fixed pitch, non symbolic and force bold flags, hence the value 40021 in hex.

It may be that this is an error in the preflight software in Acrobat X. I have not verified its findings.
Nonsymbolic? This is an interesting flag. Indeed, I have found and used successfully, file which set BOTH symbolic and nonsymbolic flags. This was created by Adobe software yet the standard clearly forbids it.
Still, nonsymbolic - "Font uses the Adobe standard Latin character set or a subset of it". Clearly no Chinese or Korean characters will be in a subset of the standard Latin character set. I have not experimented to see if this is the problem - it is not clear what this flag would do, especially if the font is embedded.

Ok, i have corrected that mistake. Still the problem remains the same. Is there a way to verify that my embedded font program is correct?
